For yachts and fleets
Pressure training for your crew.
Calm Crew is an app that gives crew a short, practical way to train for the pressure of the job. A quick check-in, a few minutes a day, and it works offline, on board and in private. Built in Mallorca by Libby Pickett.

The case
Crew rarely leave because they can’t do the job.
They leave because a season asks a great deal of them, and most have never been given any training for that side of the work. Turnover is the part of the cost you can see.
What turnover costs
20–40%
estimated annual crew turnover on most yachts
1 month
of the new crew member’s salary, what a crew agency typically charges for each placement
And more
flights, paperwork, uniform, training, and the weeks it takes someone new to settle in
What crew say
1 in 5
crew reporting stress, anxiety or loneliness on board
Half
have considered leaving the industry
89%
have never had any mental health training
Turnover: Quay Group, “The true cost of crew turnover”, March 2023. Agency fees and joining costs: Bespoke Crew, “The real cost of crew turnover”, July 2025. Crew figures: Quay Crew and MHSS crew mental health survey, 2021, 1,019 crew across more than 50 countries.
The load
It’s the load, not the person.
Crew are strong, capable people. The strain comes from the shape of the work.
Constant demand
Long days, guests who expect the best, and being on call even when you’re off.
Broken recovery
Short nights, shared cabins and irregular shifts make it hard to properly switch off.
No baseline
Months away from home, without the people and routines that usually steady you.
Calm Crew gives crew something steady they can take with them.
What the research says
Read the list and you’ve described a season.
In 2022, researchers at King’s College London reviewed sixty-three studies of seafarers’ mental health and wellbeing. The risk factors they found include long working hours, night and irregular shifts, poor sleep, high job demands, long spells at sea and weak team cohesion.
Their conclusion was that maritime managers can take practical steps, including providing education and support.
Calm Crew is that education and support, in a form crew can carry in their pocket.

The app
A few minutes a day, every day, with a course to start.
-
Today
A quick check-in on mood, energy and capacity, and a Daily practice of a few minutes of slow, easy breathing.
-
Learn
A course to start, opening one week at a time, with short teachings and practices crew can use on duty or in a shared cabin. The Daily practice and the check-in carry on after it.
-
S.O.S.
A quiet tab for tough moments, with short practices and routes to a person.
Works without signal. On iPhone and Android. See the app on the home page.
What you see
A clear picture of your crew, and nobody’s private answers.
Management sees a combined picture of how the crew are doing on mood, energy and capacity, never anyone’s own answers. Crew choose whether their check-ins count towards it, and the more of the crew who use the app, the clearer the picture becomes.
Captains never see individual answers either. That privacy is built in, because crew need to trust the app before they will use it.
Nothing is shown unless enough crew have chosen to share that no one could be singled out. We walk founding partners through the management view in person. Ask for a walkthrough
The pilot
A study, not a claim.
The pilot runs with crew on working vessels over about three months. We will report what we find, including anything that doesn’t change. Until then, Calm Crew makes no claims about results.
Founding partners
Join the pilot.
We are looking for a handful of yachts to join the pilot. Founding partners receive:
- named founding partner status
- the programme at no cost for their participating crew
- a first look at the study’s overall findings
No yacht or company sees any crew member’s own answers.
Who it’s for
Management companies and fleets
A practical tool to offer across your boats, with an anonymised picture of how crew are doing that keeps building, season after season.
Captains and heads of department
You carry the vessel’s load and your own. You start with the same course as your crew, and Leading under pressure follows, by choice.
Crew agencies
Something practical to point crew towards before they join a boat.
